About Us

The driving force behind Yarraboy Editorial Services is journalist (and lifelong pedant) Tony Berry. He has the distinction of being among the first cohort of Australian accredited editors, having passed the inaugural examination of the Institute of Professional Editors in October 2008.

Since 1990, Tony has been employed by the Herald and Weekly Times in editorial production roles on the Sunday Herald, the Sun and the Herald Sun.

In a lifetime's career he has done everything from reporting to feature writing, from columnist to editor. He has edited trade, technical and professional magazines and such mass market popular publications as Australasian POST and the upmarket lifestyle magazine Signature (for Diners Club).

Tony's editing experience has ranged from regional newspapers in the UK to the Australian consumer magazine Motoring Manual. He has also contributed to guidebooks such as the Shell Guide to Guide to Europe and the Fodor Guide to Australia and New Zealand.

Tony has worked on the foreign, finance and general news desks of The Age and, for 10 years, he was the travel editor of The Age, later becoming that newspaper's supplements editor.

He has held feature-writing and sub-editing positions with the Adelaide Advertiser and Cairns Post and been managing editor of industry publications Travelweek and Hospitality and sub-editor of Insurance Business Journal.

Tony has worked in PR, written speeches for delegates at national conventions and scripts for marketing presentations and even worked as a chef and run his own restaurants.

Last year he completed his first novel, Done Deal (available through www.bookstore.bookpod.com.au), which was shortlisted for the NSW Genre Fiction Award. A sequel, Washed Up,  was not only shortlisted for the same award a year later but also won him a mentorship from the Australian Society of Authors. A third book  is in the pipeline.
