Predictable protests

Can’t help wondering why the rent-a-crowd on both sides of the Israel/Palestine divide come out in such vociferous numbers to protest over Gaza yet there is such brain-numbing silence over what is happening in Iraq.

Could it be that the objects of their protests are nicely familiar and predictable soft targets whereas the Islamic State represents something far more fearsome, formidable and frightening; and a force whose feathers they dare not rustle for fear of what the future holds – for all of us?

Seems protesters are becoming somewhat selective and comfortable with the targets they choose to harangue. And thus less meaningful and effective.
